Since I know that this trade deficit thing will never be resolved, maybe I would do myself a service by thinking of it less like a check book ledger and more like a digestive tract. You always want to eat more than you poop, to keep strong. If you are pooping more than you are eating, then you have diarrhea, and you are getting weaker.

Or like the old saying from the 1960's - "Life is like a s**t sandwich, the more 'bread' you have, the s**t you have to eat."

I think most Americans are close to where they want to be,giving there
ability. You have one member of the family on a group plan for Insurance,
another working a small business with write- offs. The grand parents helping
with college.Hobbies that bring a little cash,middle America...Freedom with
some choices.Across the board life go's on, if you get mad you go out and
vote. In most cases it don't matter, you are busy planning the weekend.

The CEO of Starbucks said on CBS tonight, the system is broken and all corporations should withhold contributions to the broken political system and in stead employ more people to build the manufacturing base.

http://www.npr.org/2011/09/14/14047...congressional-hearing-on-solyndra?ft=1&f=1001

from the above link ...

A congressional hearing on Wednesday over a company called Solyndra became a politically charged referendum on the administration's effort to promote green energy.

Until recently, Solyndra made solar panels. It received more than half a billion dollars in government loan guarantees back in 2009. Now, the company is in bankruptcy and is being investigated by the FBI.
Another half-billion to add to the debt the grandkids need to pay.

It all sounds well and good, but in my mind the corporations are more the problem than the solution. Getting them to withhold contributions is like getting a drug addict not to pay for their next fix.

I guess my post was too close to home not to get any replies.
Middle America must be doing O.K.,but we can still talk about
the economy. It happens to someone you know, not you.

loosewire,

voter apathy has been with us at least a generation or two. Things may be changing though, as the last two special elections show.

We have mini-revolutions every two years in this country. The problem is when a resident of state "A" doesn't like what the representatives in state "B" do, and since state "B" benefits, they keep sending the critter back to DC to keep the "money flowing back" to state "B". Some may view that as bribing the people to vote in a certain way.

In a way that the way it should be.if you are going to sent someone
to represent you and your state. The longer they are there the better
committee assignments they get. That make sense and is hard argue
with. I would like to see floor debates instead of committee of eight.
They have lost the art of debates on a national level so we can root
for a cause that both sides agree on.No statemen in congress any more.
At leased the tea party sends members that agree ahead of time that
they will keep there word. I know you have seen the middle American
famlies that I described.Doing what it takes to get along. We need
Americans in congress, not party members. The book club on C-span
ont he week-in is very telling about every thing in the world, good
information if are are able to understand it.One example, they
interviewed a guy that went to Princeton at the same time
the president went there,it give a picture how some students
were passed thru,Princeton students don't carry a heavy load
of classes, and a social passing.Princeton is a lot of name only
according to the book writer.Giving good marks for Yale or Harvard.

Being that the tea party was started by millionaires, who do you think their looking out for? They are just another arm of the republican(rich) party.

My assessment of the tea party is they are uncomfortably close to fascism IMO. The founding fathers, whom they love to quote for their own goals, made no bones that compromise is absolutely necessary for a civil government. You frequently hear the phrase "no compromise" with these folks, who are definitely not a majority.

One of the concepts put forth by the people who wrote the constitution is tyranny of the majority, where a majority of the people impose there views upon a minority (religion is a common theme here). There are safe guards in the US constitution to prevent this, or at least attempt to reduce the excesses. When you have a minority willing to shut down the government totally to impose their views on the majority (especially for our own good) I get very concerned.

Another concept that has become scarce is "the loyal opposition". It is possible to disagree totally with someone as to what is best for the country and both of them still be patriots. Demonizing your opponent as a "socialist" and "communist" is a favorite tactic, and it seems to be getting worse.

Having said that, I have crossed the line for this site, and have gone into the realm of politics. I'll try (as best I'm able) to bite my tongue from here on. I suspect this threads hours are limited otherwise.

Who do you think attended that $10k per plate luncheon today in North Dallas with VP Joe Biden? I wasn't there ... were you Bill? The democrat party also was started by the rich ... and who do you think they are looking out for?

Since the beginining of this country "special interest groups" were deep into the political body. Some could point to the "special interest" from New England patriots to engage the country in war with the Crown. Wars always had profiteers, and always will. Special interest groups will always reap the lions share of funding. Those $10k per plate luncheons will always allow some, special access.

Where can I find any evidence or documentation of this? What caused you to formulate this opinion? Fact or emotion?
Statistics do not support the latter portion of your statement.

This thread is on a tangent into the dark side. It was about bringing jobs back to America. In a discussion with my step father on my idea proposed in post #1, he gave an analogy of 10 islands, in support of global trade. He said on one island they are banana farmers, because their soil is good for bananas. on another island they have pigs, on yet another they have chickens. It is not good for one island to survive solely on pork, so it stands to reason that they would trade for bananas. I let him go through his whole schpeel and then I said "Ok, now draw a circle around all your islands and label it 'America'" - we are all those 10 islands. Anything that can be made overseas, can be made here. The only people profiting (in the grand scheme, long term) from making things overseas are CEOs and politicians (via CEOs). The whole thing stinks. By pointing the finger at one group of politicians, you are only pointing at the stinkiest turd in a pile of maneur.

The machines are bolted to the floor in small business's in China.
They will not come back until China go's bust,to get back on the
subject. Our regulations and big money, congress will not help
anytime soon. Why not default on all that debt like counties
have done to us for years.Let the tea party take that up for a
cause and send people to act for America. The global thing Is in
trouble why pump more money to save it.All the billionaire want
to give there money away to other countries.Let congress take
It back for America. They avoided taxes anyway,we need the the
tea party Idea's and we need to make suggestions.Back on subject.
A back bone for America, not cuddleing other countries. I like the U.K.
and the cold countries to the north.America Is dopping the fees on
debts for bad investments on homes, the U.S. can ask the same for debt
relief overseas, our debt is In in the brokerage houses in N.Y.,we need to
find a way to reduce it right here at home, you know the greedy
brokers are not going to send there money overseas. The answer
may be in New York, just take moment and think how greed works.
