Strange transistor

Bought 2N3019 from TME. Written npn.
At routine measure before soldering on microprocessor driven all details checker find it is pnp.
Re-checked switching between resistors with the lamp as the load and bias on potentiometer.
Yes, as pnp it works well, as npn it not works.
First in the life found something so deviative. How that can be!!!?

The transistor appears to be mislabeled. That does happen sometimes. Or it may be a counterfeit, which has been a growing problem for a number of years now. The good news is that at least you received a working transistor, not a failed part.
