Which reminds me what has an semi automatic gun have to do with anything self-defense. Yet you can purchase one. Not to be use for hunting and unless it's by your bed you'll most probably never use it for self-defense.

My preferred gun when I carry is a semi-automatic, chambered for either .45 ACP or 9mm Parabellum (with a strong preference for the former).

You're right, I will probably never use it for self-defense. Just like someone that learns martial arts will probably never use it for self-defense. Nor will someone that carries pepper spray.
