Hi guys I am an electrician and was called out to an electronic Din rail digital timeclock that was flashing saying no mains but the supply was ok so I suspect it got a spike or surge if that the right words to use during the night.
So my question is what would be the best cost effective product to protect this type of thing

Many thanks in advance for your help

Does the timeclock do this on power removal and when power re-applied.?
If so, just wondering if it was a brown-out during the night.?

The timeclock when power removed flashes a plug sign to say no power. Only problem was there was power. I replaced it then took it home and connected a lead to it so same situation plug sign flashing when power is on.
Brown-out ?

Brown-out is less drastic than a power outage, just a very low dip in voltage.
So it does flash the same thing when power removed, how can you be sure you did not experience a short power loss during the night?

Well yes you could be right hence why I was asking if there was a spike or surge arrestor.
Also the term Brownout is this a US forum as I am in the UK

I am in N.A. but did my training in the UK, I can't remember if we used it there also?
A surge arrestor will be no good, if it is a brown-out or drop or loss of power causing it.
