Thanks in advance for the help. Just about done repairing my first tube radio. Recapped and cleaned up, the only part I need to finish it is a new speaker. I am really struggling trying to find a replacement in Canada.

 

You either get it re-coned or buy the kit.

 

Buy a 5" 4 Ohm speaker and make an adapter plate for it.

 

An AM radio sounds awful producing no high audio frequencies.
Most speakers that small size will be 8 ohms so the maximum output power will be half as when the radio was new.

 

The resistance of the voicecoil would be higher if it was an 8 Ohm speaker. There are 5" 4 Ohm speakers available on Amazon and eBay.

I couldn't find a cone this size so I decided to buy a smaller speaker and make a bracket.

Thanks I actually might buy this just to try my hand at reconing.

 

I'd look at a few videos before attempting it. There is special glues for speakers. Check out MG Chemicals.
50 years ago, you could take the speaker to the local electronics parts place and they would send it away.
It's a very good idea for restorations.
