I understand what is being said but 1000 volts have hit me in my left hand from a mosquito swatter and it felt weird for 5 minutes a day then was ok- I'm not too worried

The current from that device is very limited. The mains won't let go, you can literally die from it.

It will be solar power so im not worrief about shocks
Would it be possible to use a different resistor to turn on the solar panel later into the night-

On second thought I don't think you could actually substitute the solar panel for the photoresistor. You could however just integrate the circuit descibed into the lamp although there may not be a convenient spot for the photoresist (maybe drill a small hole and mount it behind that?). The parts are cheap enough anyway (cost me much less than a buck for everything) so it may be worth the effort to experiment a little bit with it.

My last comment on mains voltage.

If you are repurposing a connector commonly found on cord sets which have a mains plug on the other end, you must consider what happens if a person not familiar with your modification using such a cord set and plugs your device into the mains. You could build in protection against this, but that would be costly in parts and space. If you don’t the best case is smoke, next is fire, and last is electrical shock. This is why it should never be done.

This is the reverse case of terminating a line cord in some connector (e.g.: ¼” phone, XLR, etc.) that normally carries low level signals and is not designed to be handled at high potential. Shock, smoke, fire... it’s all much more likely in your future.

This is the last I will say about this, but I really think you should mount a simple barrel jack on the case and not use that line cord socket.
