Hi. Can someone explain to me the operation of a polarised snubber circuit used with a BJT?

I have to tell you this. At first it looked confusing and all and also off the topic buy when I had a closer look and studied it thoroughly things began to seem more easy for me. I mean I am not saying you will understand each and everything written in that PDF but still I am positive that you will know what you need to know and for me that's all I want. However, surprisingly there seems to be an issue because I really doubt whether the diagram for the polarized snubbed circuit is correct. From what I have learned in my school, the arrow is supposed to go the other direction. Have to check it!
