We got 4-5" last night, since it moved further north, we will get a little freezing rain till noon. No big deal.

Just watched a GMA rolleyes interview. Some guy was whining; "We got snow everywhere, the wind was blowing it everywhere. Nobody knows anything!!! This is insanity!!!"

Exactly when did we become a country of "Somebody needs to tell me it's going to be ok, somebody needs to DO something, somebody make it better" ??? It reminds me of the same mentality with home break-ins. Call 911, Just cower in the corner, beg for your life and beg the intruder to stop assaulting your wife and daughters. The proper authorities will be there in 40 minutes and make it all better...

We get bad weather all the time, I have a big generator, a little one, there is enough food for several weeks in the freezer and cupboard. Even though my kids have AAA, I taught them how to fix minor problems with their cars like on the rim tire repairs, and spare fluids and jumpers in the trunk. I wonder what would happen if we get a REAL catastrophe ???

 

My biggest catastrophe is caused when the street snow plow dumps a huge load of salted and sanded snow in my driveway and it instantly freezes solid.

My snow on the front stoop is about a meter high. I can see drifts of nearly 2 meters out towards the road. My world is pretty constrained.

 

Looking outside, i realize my window is a solid sheet of ice.

 

I woke up to a rolling blackout. Funny, I seem to remember a contract about my home being all electric (no gas allowed), and at 15°F they cut the power for 15 minutes.

Sometimes i feel this way, like when talking to my friend in Denmark as a foreign exchange student, but then something like this giant storm happens, and its like everybody in the country is talking about the same storm, regardless of where they live

Its weird, with all this communication this age, i had a cousin id never met, i meet her this summer, and then this fall i find out one of my best friends used to go to the same school as her and knew her.

You'd think with the sheer size of the world and the number of people, something like this would be ridiculously improbable, but you hear stories of it all the time.

I think that mindset started right around the end of the cold war (1980s), and got way worse at the turn of the century. Katrina in New Orleans is a great example. Build below sea level then freak out and blame the federal government for the flood.

minutes Instead of delays. Florida will always be the place to go for
winter vacation.A lot of people are forced to come down for health

But how many others are snowed in here in the USA? UPS is two days late and I haven't even seen the postal service for two days either. Some of my friends up North have received over 100" of snow and I don't mean drifts, I mean flat and level. I measured 8" level and some 16" drifts on the sides of the house. We didn't even make it to 15*F today and they're talking about -3*F to -10*F tonight - currently 12*F and falling like a rock with more expected this weekend as well as Monday and Tuesday.

Had some parts on order from TX and CO that should have been here on Monday but no show as of yet. UPS said my order was out for delivery today but I feel for them and can be patient as I can't even get out of my driveway until I shovel it all off so I can get out and mail a few things.

I do hope all are OK, kind of a freak storm that hit us - especially here where it's rare to get more than a few inches of dry snow.

 

We got about as much as you did, and i ordered some tubes from russia and haven't gotten them for like 3 weeks, other orders are late too
we got bout a foot with some 2 foot drifts, fun fun

Fine with me, I just checked with UPS and they stopped delivering around noon.

 

Down to 8*F outside. Where did all this stuff come from? Kind of unusual around here.

No matter to me but it was kind of a surprise and the dog seems to enjoy it.

I just need to get to the post office tomorrow but I'm not into shoveling snow and they're a long ways away from getting the theoretical "snow routes" cleared off. I will take a snow shovel when I go though just in case.

 

Spent my day day {only 12 hours} helping people remove two feet of snow, up to six feet in spots due to plows, and drifting.
Take a guess as to what I will being tomorrow { if I can even still move}. Tore up six shearing pins and a bunch of bailing wire... snow blower is hurting as much as I am.
