after a brief discussion, we were tasked to create an smps circuit simulation strictly in circuit wizard 2 so we have limited ICs and other components in general. have to finish it on a given time but the working principles are complex and not that easy to follow. is this circuit okay? thank you a lot1694097866000.png

Welcome to AAC!
Circuit Wizard should be telling you that the circuit is not ok.
Have another think about the polarities of the diodes on the secondary side of the transformer.
I don't use Circuit Wizard, but would it normally use a ground reference point?
Are you expecting the transformer primary current to flow through the input connections of IC1a?
What is doing the switching in this SMPS?

please help me find faults in the circuit, we were allowed to use one application only for this activity and the app has limited components. our final output must have zero explosions but the diodes keep exploding and im still not sure about the 555 configuration. can make with component values, just need inputs about the connection in general. thanks a lot

p.s. also have very light knowledge about smps sorry in advance for the errors

hello, thank you for your reply. i revised the circuit and this is what it looks now but still explodes. :(

Hi,

Question: How does the power get to the primary of T1?
Answer: It can't.

What is Circuit Wizard telling you about the voltages on the pins of IC1?
Why do you have the opto-coupler's transistor shorting the output of IC1?

hello,
q1: voltages around 5-6v on 8&4 and around 4V on input. others are low to zero voltage because of ground.
q2: i am not sure, ii read that it will act as protection and will try to stop if voltage goes over the desired value. but i honestly never used one before, i just saw it in sample circuits of smps

Before you start trying to design circuits, first you need to understand how the mgnetics works. Do you understand how buck and boost regulators work? Do you understand the significance of V/L=dI/dt ? Do you know understand Hopkinson's law? Or magnetomotive force? or Reluctance?

i do know V/L=dl/dt but others no. i am still on the process of learning and reading books about design, and what is learned in school is only the basic concepts.. but our prof tasked us to do this in the first week of sem so i only searched up what i can

Start by reading up on the UC3842 (read manufacturers' datasheets and application notes), but make sure that you don't get to the end of the course without learning about magnetomotive force, reluctance, flux, flux density, core loss and saturation.

There is no ground symbol on the primary side, nor any link to the ground shown, so Circuit Wizard must be inventing one somehow!

sorry, i posted an earlier image. I did attach ground on the primary side. but same thing still happens, all diodes explode
