Learning to solder small components of a laptop motherboard and I started with the SIO chip , well I wanted to know how can you tell which way to solder it to the motherboard , Of course I forgot to remember but they maybe a case where one is not on the motherboard .<a href="https://imgur.com/9nfopMP"><a href="https://imgur.com/m7aarQL">

 

Look at the overlay printed in white on the PCB. You will notice that three of the corners have right-angled lines while one corner has a single straight line. Also notice the white dot. This indicates pin-1 of the chip.

Match this corner with the corner notched out on the IC package.


I made the mistake once of assuming that pin-1 was at the top-left corner of the chip while the printed logo on the chip was facing up.
I wouldn't make that mistake again.
