I am working on incorporating two LEDs that flicker at different rates into a diorama project. I possess two useless art degrees and can't count past ten without taking my shoes off, so this is well out of my area of expertise. After three days of struggle, I come to you, hat in hand, seeking guidance. Attached is the inventory of electronic components I have at my disposal.

Help.
Please.
I want to make this awesome.
Thanks.

Unless some of the LEDs have built-in microcontrollers to implement flickering, you can't do it with the components you have.

Your components wouldn't even allow you to blink LEDs.

The simple but not compact way to produce an LEDflicker is to connect the LEd with a series diode across the speaker connections of a small radio, tuned to a music station.

OK, using the flasher flipflop to clock the 74HC595 8-bit shift register can generate a sort-of random set of bits. But it would not be that simple. It would use some diodes as logic elements, and transistors to drive the LEDs

What do you mean by flickering? To me, this means changing brightness in a random (appearing) way.

That is far more complicated than what I call blinking, which is alternating on and off at a specific constant interval.
