Running a dc motor from a PLC

Hi guys

I am undertaking a project to upgrade an old control panel which is running a cartoning machine. I have 2 DC motors on this machine that are running two conveyors, one small inlet conveyor and one drive chain conveyor. The inlet conveyor is fixed speed where as the main drive chain conveyor is currently being run by an old inverter complete with variable speed pot on it (even though this is never used and the speed is always the same) I have attached a link to the PLC that i will be using but just want to get a couple of ideas on what would be best to run the motor from the PLC maybe a new inverter or a soft start controller perhaps? Any cool cost saving ideas would be great.

Are the motors/drives in working order?
It sounds as though all you need is a output from the PLC to initiate start to each motor controller, is there any problem doing this?
What are the issues with the current controllers?
Max.

Hi Max

Yes the motors are in working order and are just direct on line starting at the moment, well except the main drive with the inverter which itself is working ok but Is just a little old other than that it's ok. I do want to put in some SSR too fir switching the contactors for added PLC protection

I don't really understand what you're asking for. The drives are probably going to start from a output from the plc. Isn't that how they're being started now?
