Sad? I don't think so. That is what robots are for - doing repetitive or precise tasks or, as in this case, to do things that are too dangerous for humans to try.
Are you saying this was the ultimate proof that hitchhiking is dangerous? :p

I'm saying that the creators of hitchbot may have had a feeling... and it was only Philadelphia! Just think what would have happened to the poor thing in Peoria or Witchita.

It is sad. A great experiment on human and robot interactions provides for the the worst in humans.
I'll agree that I am disappointed in the human actions. However, I have trouble being sad about a broken machine...

... unless the machine is an antique motorcycle.
