Hello good folks! Got a simple question but cant find any info on the matter.. I purchased a set of usb / rj45 extension modules, where one usb plugs into my pc then uses an ethernet cable of 80ft and the other end the extended usb female port.
I want to use this to extend my alfa wifi adapter, but given the distance im looking at possible power loss and would like to add a 5v power supply at the far end of this cable. The usb hub used on the far end does not have an option for external power and I would like to modify this.
My question is, do I disconnect the usb + / - internally in the extended hub and solder in my 5v PS? Will the data still transfer even though my wifi is running on separate power? I dont want to burn anything up, and have never tried anything like this.
Any advice would be helpful! thanks.
