What is your distance?

I shoot a 65# compound comfortably to 40yds. I shoot a .243 comfortably to 250yds, but haven't shot any game beyond about 125yds. I'm in the process of purchasing a .270wsm that is intended to reach out to 500yds. At that distance the concentration is on resolving distance accurately and applying ballistics.

 

Ive shot some skeet, 12Ga over/under.
Not much experience but it was about 50 yards and I used both eyes, got 8/10.
It helps me judge distance a lot better.

My primary gun is set for approximately 37,5m. (I don't remember exactly, but it is something like that) With the projectiles ballistic specs I should aim at the same spot and hitting dead on at 200m. It works, and I do.

 

That discussion had be pulling out my bow and drawing to sights a couple of times. The design of the sights requires the use of both eyes, otherwise you can't properly resolve the alignment, without the depth perception.

And since I was there, I pulled out my guns and played with them for awhile. One of my favourite stimulus is the smell of gunpowder in the morning.

I remember one time my father brought me along to a Naval base. Todays object was to burn some black powder the German had left after the war...

Not sure how this compares but we have about $3.25 gallon here, I can work in metric and English both but don't want to do the conversions, I think its cheaper.

The price here is now about £1.30 per litre for standard unleaded petrol (gasoline). Diesel or super unleaded (99 RON) is a few pence more.

If £1 is worth $1.6116, and one US gallon is equal to 3.7854 litres, the standard juice works out at $7.93 per US gallon.

Perhaps it's as well that we do not have so many guns around here.

I meant 0.71euros/litre.

 

I started shooting a BB gun when I was four, and .22 rimfire when I was five. I participated in the Junior NRA through high school, mostly shooting .22 target rifles. My Dad gave me a Remington 870 Wingmaster 12 gauge pump action shotgun when I was around 14, and a Remington M1903-A3 .30-06 National Match rifle when I turned 15. Still have both of those. I don't seem to get out to the range very often anymore, but enjoy it when I do.

More on topic, I apparently came REALLY close to getting an AK-47 today, but no such luck...

SgtWookie, when I came in the AAC you where already an authority, so people knew all about you and didn't talk about you very much. Consequently, I have blanks when it comes to information about you.

From what I hear you where in the army and maybe you fought in Vietnam. Is this correct or not? If it is so, did you only mention guns that you had until you came of age?

 

I enlisted in the US Marine Corps in December of 1973, and left for Boot Camp (basic training) in March of 1974. By the time I was done with all of my training, the Vietnam War was over with. I'm not sorry that I missed it.

I just mentioned a couple of firearms that my Dad gave to me when I was young. I've accumulated a number of rifles, pistols and revolvers over the years.

I wasn't around then, but from what Ive heard and read it was nasty. :/
My grandfather was killed in that war.

Yes, the Remington Wingmaster. With basic seasonal cleaning, mine worked flawless for 20 years until I traded it in for a Baretta semi last year.

In Canada, we came under 'gun control', I'm guessing 15 years ago. Arms where divided into three basic groups, prohibited, restricted, and non restricted, the later being 'long' arms typically used for hunting. At the time of it's implementation, many guns where held by estates or family members that were unsure of thier status, so they would surrender those arms in an attempt to comply. Many fine arms where lost back then. Such a pity.

 

Sgt is that 1903 a 2 groove? They shoot really great.. Did you go to PI, I was there from June-Aug 1970..
