There are several schemes to provide "backup protection" against different failure modes. some are more complex than others, and some are a lot more expensive.
So the question first is what sort of failure are you choosing to protect against??? Loss of control?? motor drive gears fault? Or cable break?? Different failure modes require different protection schemes.
