Reusing iComfort/Lennox S30 HD Display?

Hi all,

I was using an iComfort/Lennox S30 HD display/controller for my furnace, but the hub on the furnace recently died and I had to replace it all. So, I've got this S30 HD Display that still works and may be of some use to re-purpose. It has a small USB jack and a micro SD slot. I've plugged it into my computer, but I can't get it to be recognized, it just keeps booting up repeatedly.

I was wondering if I could install a bootable SD card or gain control of it via USB jack and eventually re-purpose it for something else. Not sure if it has the ability to do more than operate a furnace (as a microcontroller), but thought I'd ask if anyone has any suggestions.

Any thoughts?

Thanks, Jim

Welcome to AAC.

It appears the device is not just a display but some sort of SBC or MCU based complete system. The first thing you will have to do is disassemble it to determine what CPU or MCU the system is using. You should also look for a serial console connection (sometimes a simple pin header, or the pads to install one) which might let you gain access to the system.

Basically, you'll need to reverse engineer the device. A good start is to take it apart and take well lit (no glare, no deep shadows) and well focused photos of the board(s), both sides and post them here so we can take a look.
