What is the influence of the wattage of a resistor on a circuit?
Can 1/4watt resistors be replaced by 1/2watt resistor without any effect on the circuit?

Yes.

The power rating of a resistor is the power it can safely dissipate before there is a risk of it burning out.

It is safe to use one with a higher rating than necessary, but not the other way round.
