I have a Tektronix THS720P that is getting long in the tooth... The display is fading and the battery has wilted to nothing.

What would you recommend as a modern replacement?

What I liked about the Tek was it's robust construction and good user interface design.
What I hated was the crappy monochrome LCD display.

I use a Siglent SHS800 in my work and can recommend it as very good value – I think we paid less than £400 for it over a year ago.

Make sure you buy it including the sturdy carry case which includes room for the mains charger, leads etc.

Besides the 2 channel scope, the unit has a multimeter function – I don’t often use this function as the scope is capable of displaying selected measurement parameters of the waveform (Vrms, Vmax, Vmin, frequency etc). Although the selected measurement parameters appear within blocks at the base of the screen – partially obscuring the waveform.

With so many functions available, initial use of the scope was frustrating trying to get it to do what you want – but with perseverance commonly used functions become easily found.

Being class II, the scope can easily measure between voltages that cannot be referenced to earth/chassis, using a single probe.
