Yeah, but that was largely true well before they went bankrupt.

I went into a Radio Shack looking for a germanium diode and the store manager had no idea what I was talking about. I finally found their electronic parts section and it was down to a single drawer with perhaps two dozen different components in it.

RafioShack is alive and well down here in Mexico. And it too, ceased to provide parts and components a long time ago. Pretty much since it declared bankruptcy in the US.

Nowadays it's just a generic consumer electronics retailer.

 

The website was still selling components for a long time after the brick and mortar stores closed, at least until a couple years ago. Same stuff as always; same high prices.

At least you have Steren in Mexico. More Radio Shack than Radio Shack was for the last 50 years!

Although arguably, turning north on highway 101 at Shelton and going a handful of miles to Bambi Lane instead of turning south on 101 leads to some of THE BEST regional ice cream at Olympic Mountain ice cream. If you're nice, you can rummage through the freezer for pints of overruns (the remains after filling 3 gallon and 5 gallon containers). Screw the electronics.
