Hi, I’m fairly new to circuitry and still finding my feet. I’ve been asked at work if I can install a push button that will activate a timer with a 5 second delay then activate a solenoid for say 10 seconds. I was wondering how I would achieve this? Any help is appreciated thanks

 

You need a N.O. P.B. that operates a timer with a delay-on-off characteristic, some are programmable as to type, ON-delay, delay on OFF etc.
What voltage?
What is it operating?
BTW, What is your position at work?

Thanks, I’ve got the NO P.B. I just haven’t installed a timer before so wasn’t sure how to set it up, I’m a Maintenance Technician.

If you buy a commercial(off the shelf) timer, it should not be too difficult, in many case the timer has some kind of diagram.
The timer relay contact rating may be limited, so you need to check the load the timer is switching.
Omron, Idec, etc and there are other makes also.
