Hi,

I am in my third year at college and i need to come up with an idea for a project to undertakle for the 8 month duration of the academic year. I major in electrical engineering and i am very intersted in renewable energy systems, solar in particular.

For my project, I was thinking of building an inverter that will invert the DC 'sunlight' to AC that can be used by household appliances. That is a pretty straight foward concept but i really wanted to add some clever, innovative electronics in the whole inversion process to either conserve battery life, increase efficiency etc.

If anyone is experienced in the design of inversion circuits any other suggestions is very much welcomed.

I will really apreciate any suggestions.

Try using Lithium Ion automotive batteries, that's leading battery technology for the moment (the type used to run a Prius, etc). Although, you may want to look to A123 Systems rather than Sony.
