The tendency worries me:

"It was recently revealed that the city of New York plans to install facial recognition tech on its bridges and tunnels to scan and identify people driving in and out."

In my opinion, this facial recognition fad (and I don't think it will be a passing one) clearly crosses the privacy threshold.

All over the world, a "ruling class" already enjoys privileges that are way above the average citizen. Once all privacy is lost, I think that we will have reached a point of no return, and the world will be divided between Eloi and Morlocks...

Ok... let's drop politics (kind of hard, I know) but what other techs involving invasion of privacy have already been implemented out there?
Cell phone location? So-called metadata on phone calls? Next thing I know, all cars will be required to have a GPS system installed in them!... will we ever be "chipped"?

The NSA can turn on the microphone on your TV, Cell Phone, or computer any time they want to. You car tracks your mileage and direction, even if it doesn't have GPS. That's why I spent today removing the compass function from my car.

Cars with Bluetooth, linking to your phone and tracking calls made and locations. So you destroy your phone but everything is in your car computer. And those things are SO secure; no one will ever hack into them.

Privacy lost? You've never really had it since the age of telephones and television. What's changed is the ease of access with modern devices and the willingness of people to talk about and to tell the world every stupid fact about their lives online. The tech companies are the one's that profit from your information and the profit motive drives that's being collected today from digital devices. Follow the money if you want to see Privacy lost.

I've been known to play s little parlor game at parties. After a couple of beers, I get the guys to tell me the names of their exes. Maybe a couple of details. Then. I pull up their exes info from online searches! Like where they are living, current phone #s, jobs, kids, lovers... always get a shocked response.
