Print off a Currency bill

Counterfeit currency is a huge problem for any civilized country, as it undermines the entire financial system. If left unchecked in a given country, other countries would stop trusting their currency. It became such a problem in the USA that every denomination from $5 on up was redesigned with new security features to make counterfeiting far more difficult; even so, I've heard that some pretty difficult-to-detect fakes of the new bills have been found. The US Secret Service is VERY actively investigating the positivity of counterfeit currencies; and I would not be surprised if they shared such info with any country we do trade with.

Your best bet would be to buy play money at a store; it's realistic enough for kids and nobody wearing badges, guns and hancuffs will care.
It's also likely that this thread has, in fact, garnered some attention (actionable or otherwise) from above.

I only wish that counterfeit currency was the biggest problem undermining our entire financial system, but that immediately goes to politics, so do not respond to my comment.

It's odd that it scanned fine, but wouldn't print. It seems it would be easier to manufacture the bills with ink tech that is resistant to scanning, than to design printers with pattern recognition that is resistant to printing currency.

I'm curious what/where in the image tips the printer off that you're trying to print currency. I wonder if it might be detected while scanning and encoded into the scan file, rather than detected while printing. I would try pulling up the successfully scanned image, taking a screenshot of it, and printing the screenshot. If it won't print the screenshot, I would try printing portions of it only (top half, left half, etc) until I find the portion that the printer objects to. Then I whittle that area down as small as I can get it to still print. I might also try putting it through some barely-noticeable filters in GIMP and see what happens.

P.S.
Diluting the money pool should be left to the professionals (the federal reserve).

Agreed! -- To which I would add that the forging of currency is yet another 'argument' for a 'cashless' society --- A calamitous eventuality indeed for privacy/individuality/freedom valuing citizens!!!:mad::mad:

even so, I've heard that some pretty difficult-to-detect fakes of the new bills have been found.
The 'word around' is that N. Korea are forging US $100 notes with such precision that they circulate undetected until the Treasury 'nabs' them via comparison of magnetically coded ink patterns with note-specific engraving logs...

and...we're back to discerning the difference between courage and ambitious stupidity.
I love the way this guy pokes the bear. It's the opposite of my method. I try to stay under the radar, he wants the powers that be to know he is about as manageable as trying to herd cats. :D
Fortunately for me I am not the least bit ambitious. Just ask my wife the bear I poke at with a stick most days.

As for herding cats I seem to have the knack for that.:p

It's a useless skill but I can do it anyway. Last night some racoons were tearing it up out in the yard so I went out to try ans shoot them. Unfortunately they were not in a visible location so I just walked around the yard with my pack of hunting cats.

Three take the lead and two do the follow up covering the back. I have no idea why they do that when I go out at night with the 22 but they sure seem to enjoy doing it. If I shoot something they all lay down on the ground and do happy kitty flips rolling back and forth with their fur all fluffed up and as happy as cats can get.

I am the cat whisperer.

Hey, no kidding! I tried to scan a US $20 (note to freedom-loving government: just as a trial, honest!) at 19.2Kx19.2K on a Brother MFC5895-CW scanner/printer and it wouldn't scan! Started the pre-scan then stopped with no message. I left the bill on the glass and tried a few other resolutions with no luck. Removed bill and slipped a document in there, scanned fine. Replaced bill with no changes to settings and it aborted as before, no message no nothing ... WOW.

Hold on a minute - someone's knocking at the door....

Since we are on the topic, I thought you might like to see some money I designed. My wife has a deadbeat brother who sees relatives as sources of money, squanders any money he does make and has been an inflammatory and irritating nuisance to the whole family. This some money I made just for him. The rest of the family loved it.

Can you revise that for me?
The theme would be:
Drive me around, work for free, give me cash.
This year I was down with a back injury made it easier for me to realize how many leaches I had hanging on me.
My, "good nature" crashed when it was an actual pain to do two of them and a financial pain to do the third one.
When I said I refuse to do those three things, my world got absolutely boring.
It would be lovely to be able to hand a person a receipt for being a leach.

Still thinking...
In Karma I Trust
This token can be exchanged for one free ride, one free job/chore/repair, or twenty dollars cash...
from anybody that thinks I deserve it.

Wonder what would happen if you only scans parts of a bill? Something like a shadow mask that only showed 10%.

FWIW -- If the technology is indeed that implemented in (modern) currency changers, it is my understanding that the algorithm 'looks for' ultra fine lines, micro-printing and/or other 'signature' features having very low probably of occurrence in other document/image types...

FWIW, while apprehension of the technique is an interesting subject of inquiry/discussion I don't advise 'messing' with it -- There are better ways of spending twenty-five years (worst case scenario) or months of vainly attempting to clear one's name of the 'stain' remaining after dismissal of charges (best case scenario) ---- Ok! All done preaching!:)
