Hello,

For the past 2 and a half years I've been working on a new clock. The goal was to invent a new clock which used mechanics, electronics and with a cool factor. Thought I'd share here on AAC and see what people thought. The idea/project had been posted on Kickstarter but failed due to not getting the word out very well. Depending on the interest I'm thinking of posting in the completed projects section? Please let me know your thoughts!

I think someone in the Far East beat you to it :(. Here's one I was given about 6 years ago. Uses a standard quartz clock mechanism, apparently with extended shafts for the 'hands' :-

Haha! Great looking clock and thanks for sharing. My clock as well uses a a quartz crystal. I divide the signal down to 2hz, count 120 pulses and then using the TMC2100 driver I increment the stepper motor by one minute.
I have someone who has reached asking to build my clock with the use of a 3D printer. I'm hoping we can work together and then add it to the completed projects section.

Where did you get the gears? Did you make them?

That while kind of expensive, is a good looking well thought out CNC. Really looks rigid something most small CNCs lack.
The Nomad 883 is a fantastic CNC that can be run inside the house with little noise. If you ever decide purchasing a 3 axis CNC I’d consider buying this one.

Hi spinnaker,

I did design the gears myself but not without the help of plenty of youtube videos and a tone of reading. There are actually some websites that provide CAD drawing for gears.
How on earth did you figure out all the ratios? Especially with those gears inside gears. I can't imagine how that is done. I find it amazing.

An no offense put that is a rather simple clock. Some have dozens if not hundreds of mechanical parts. Many designed long before computers.

Old mechanical watches impress me as well as steam locomotives. Both for their size on each end of the spectrum. Size and complexity that give unique challenges.

An amazing feat of engineering. Now get started on something like this. ;)

If you find that amazing, look at the Antikythera mechanism! Even before gear cutting. Dated to ~87BC !
