Also not sure what devices the PicKit2 can't support... I know it wont program my PIC16F1509 from MPLAB, but the stand-alone programmer will quite happily... and I see no reason why that should be the case. Maybe if they spent less time dicking around with camcorders and Movie Maker?

Many of the later 18Fx2kx3 series etc require the Pickit3.

OK I got the generic No. wrong it is the PIC18f23/40/44k22 series.
I went to these because of the amount of multiplexed pins flexibility.

All those can bee programmed via the PicKit2 using the stand alone software and the v1.62 device update file.
