The carnivore diet is a fad diet based on eating large amounts of animal fats and very little of anything else. The patient in this case reported eating nearly 10 pounds of butter, cheese and other fatty foods every day since embarking on the diet—even going so far as to add fat to the hamburgers he consumed daily.

Notice the phrase, "The patient in this case reported...."

What if the patient had reported eating 600 to 900 lb of butter and cheese and drinking 3000 gal of water each day?

At what point do authors take a step back and ask whether what the patient reported is patently absurd and shouldn't be made part of any article they write?

At what point do reviewers take a step back and ask whether data included by authors are patently absurd and shouldn't be part of any article the journal accepts?

When you click on the "Full Text" to get the article contents, you have "To register for email alerts, access free PDF, and more". I hated doing that, but I did it anyway to see if the article contained a reasonable explanation behind the absurd and sensationalistic claim in the abstract. But, after registering and signing in, when you again try to get the full text, it brings up a dialog that requires you to pay $40 to get access. No thanks.

JAMA used to be (decades and decades ago) THE goto journal for medical research. But the limited exposure I've had to it in the last couple decades has made me put it into the junk journal category.

Missing 16-year-old girl killed, ‘dismembered’ after meeting man on social media, police say

Gress is in custody, where he was already in jail on unrelated charges.

Police arrested him on March 5th for pointing a harpoon at his girlfriend and for possessing drugs.

He also faces a kidnapping charge in the disappearance of Miranda.
