Odd supply for an op amp?

I'm not OCD, but have patience.

A member mentioned something about not wanting to sort through a bunch of resistors or diodes if they got mixed up. I straightened the leads of 1000 zeners from Electronics Goldmine and sorted them.

It's something that seems like a daunting task, but is actually quite tractable. There's nothing that says that it has to be done in one sitting, or that it can't be done while you are watching a movie or some other suitable activity.

I briefly read the CA3080 spec. It is an Operational Transconductance Amplifier (OTA); it basically amplifies the input voltage difference to produce an output current. Pin 5's voltage adjusts the gain. The internal circuit shows pin5-pin4 is the B-E of the transistor that serves as the current source of the input differential pair, thus controlling the gain. In the given schematic, the OTA doesn't have a feedback loop from the output back to the input. The way V- (pin-4) is connected actually provides a certain level of negative feedback, because when V- (pin4) rises, it effectively reduces the gain of the OTA.
