It’s not nuclear batteries per se that are silly, it’s this one in particular. There are various sorts of nuclear batteries powering pacemakers, spacecraft, and other things where changing them is very hard or impossible. There are betavoltaic batteries that use something like photovoltaics to generate small, very expensive power for those with unlimited budgets.Actually a nuclear battery is not that far fetched. I remember reading about this. The Perseverance rover requires electrical power to operate. About 110 watts at launch, declining a few percent per year and it weighs in at about 100 Lbs. Hate to see the cost but it really isn't anything new. Some of what I am seeing in my lifetime was Jules Verne stuff when I was a kid. Seeing some pretty cool stuff during my lifetime and pretty much an E ticket ride.
