Have been wondering for a while now. The Chernobyl Disaster happened in 1986.

However, in one of the documentaries that was detailing the horrors from fallout of disaster, they mentioned that other three reactors kept producing power till year 2000 around.

My question is:
I have always believed, that its well-known and well documented fact that adverse effects of Nuclear Radiation are both long term and long distant. So how could the people (Power Plant technicians) continued to produce power in remaining three reactors for next 14 years? I am assuming that the remaining three reactors would be in the vicinity of the one that blew up. While the documentary said that countries as far as Norway were recording significantly higher Geiger counts but the three reactors in the immediate vicinity were safe enuf to continue with power generation?

Thanks in adv & Regards,
Rahul

You might start with reading some of the many articles about it. The Wikipedia article can get you headed down that path. It has over three hundred references, links for further reading, and links to many official sites regarding the topic.

You are much more likely to find useful, relevant, and reliable information that way than asking a bunch of people on an electronics forum.
