Noob Question - Simple volume control for PC and PAM8610 amp

That's because the input impedance of the amp is most likely less than 10K. I would go with the 1K pots if you need better control of the volume.

Yeah, I noticed the 1K gave me a lot better control over the volume.

What I found odd is that, even without the line cap there's zero noise. I really thought I would need one because I knew it was a chinese low end PSU.

Now I'm tempted to get myself a pair of bookshelf speakers, all I have is small Home Theater stuff, absolutely zero bass and to line in a Subwoofer I'd need to give away one of the outputs. Since I'm going for tame audio levels, I will most likely get a cheap pair of speakers and some tweeters and use small boxes to fit on my table.

You mentioned output power.
The datasheet of the PAM8610 amplifier shows 15W per channel but with horrible clipping distortion of 20% (1% sounds fairly bad) when its power supply is 15V and the volume is turned up way too much. Using your 12V supply, its maximum output per channel will be 6W to 7W with reasonably low distortion.

Thank you for the information! I was never aiming at the maximum output power, so that's perfectly fine. I did a few tests with the Home Theather sub I have and well... it did manage quite a lot of volume before I noticed distortion. So, I'm fairly pleased with how this little board handles it.

I wish my Edifier kit wouldn't screw with mids so much. I've been testing the satellite boxes on this board amp and they sound a lot better at lower volumes than on the Edifier.
