Could someone tell me what the plug looking components are on the right hand side of this schematic (there's 4 of them) and how is 90V reached on that side of the circuit?

They are neon bulbs, they will strike at about 110v, the voltage is drawn from the cathode/grid of the valve 6Vs-1

Thanks, are the neon bulbs being used this way to create the 90V, or is the 90V coming from somewhere else in the circuit (perhaps the vacuum tube is developing it?).

Right. The neon bulbs are just big, glass, zener diodes.

I saw a vacuum tube, 60kV, 80kV and 400M. So it must be a gieger counter.

When I get an xray I can't remember seeing the radiation symbol but I remember seeing the pretty young nurse technician running for cover.

One time she told me to hold my breath then she disappeared behind the radiation shield.
She came back about 15 minutes later but I couldn't hold my breath that long. I was turning blue.

 

IIRC, anything over 25 kv can create x-rays. A radiation warning seems appropriate at 60KV.
