Hi! I recently aquired a bradley smoker with a burnt out chip, probably the main chip. Im going to rebuilt it with either Arduino or relay logic.

I just opened it and found this switch i cant really identify, i could probably spend some time learing it but i dont want to risk breaking it. Is it an inductive sensor or IR of some kind? What voltage do you think it operates on? My guess is 5v on the diode side and the other side is a 25A switch? I attached a few images and a link to the replacement part.

It is a slotted opto device. One side is an infra red LED and the other side is an infra red photo detector. The LED is energised all the time. If there is nothing between the source and detector then the detector conducts. If the path is broken then no infra red reaches the detector so it does not conduct. You will probably find a part number on the slotted opto device (Not the number on the PCB.) From that number you shold be able to find a data sheet with the devices characteristics on the web.

Thank you!
Unfortunately there is no part number on the device, its a noname, same as the chip that got burnt. How do they usually work, is it like a relay?

I'm interested in this Thread, Do you mind indulging me, I have a question, I tried to make a smoker circuit. We thought of a optical smoke detector that would detect smoke and either add to the smoke box or light it again. Where is this mounted on the smoker?

Thank you,

kv

There is no optical smoke detector in these units, bradley smoker is just a simple smoker for fish, meat, etc.
The smoker feeds a puck every 20min for the smoke, but you could feed it yourself with a button. But it would be great to have some kind of detector to check the level of smoke inside the box.
