I am looking for help creating an amplifier.

I am using a sensor to control and actuator. I would like to amplifier to boost the current from the sensor tho the actuator. The sensors specs are as follow, I am running g the sensor at 5v

Operating Voltage: 2.0 - 5.5V
Operating Current(Vcc=3V):1.5 - 3.0μA
Operating Current(VDD=3V):3.5 - 7.0μA
Output Response Time: 60 - 220mS

The actuator runs at 12v and can pull up to 30 amps. This is the first step of many, I am just trying to get the sensor to trigger the actuator for now. Eventually I need to incorporate a delay and a timer as well.

I am new to electronics in this level but have a basic understanding of components and function. Any ideas would greatly help. This is a project that my 7 year old son is helping me with.

It sounds like you need proportional control, so that the current to the actuator is proportional to the sensor signal? This is much more difficult than on or off, so let's be sure we need it.

How do you control the actuator, by control of the current or control of the voltage?

What does the output of the sensor look like? Analog voltage? Digital?

How fast does this need to be? I mean, will you be controlling many times a second or every few seconds or continuously?

The data sheet for the sensor would really help.

This actuator is 30A X 12v = 360 watts. What kind of power supply do you have. I hope you don't plan to use two D-batteries.

Also, is it a screw type (slow) actuator or a fast solenoid / electromagnetic type? If fast, be careful connecting it. It can cause sever injury if you're not ready for it to snap to the new position with a half horsepower of force.

Did you miss the part about 7 year old son?

Thank you for your replies, I guess I need to be more detailed on this project.

I am attempting to use a touch sensor to open the doors of my car.
Here is a link to the sensor I would like to use.
http://wiki.seeed.cc/Grove-Touch_Sensor/
I am using heavy duty solenoid actuators rated at 300 lbs.
I had these laying around, and with 5 kids finding extra cash for
the projects I do with son is difficult to come by, Liner actuators would be
preferred due to the fact that solenoids are very loud and contain not of
force which over time can cause damage. So far we just hooked up
the sensor to a small 5v battery and an led just to check how well it functions
with different materials and different thicknesses of materials.
My overall plan is when the unlock button is activated then the system
will activate for a set amount of time, say 120 seconds. once the system is activated then
you can touch one of these sensors that is hidden under the panels around
the doors. One sensor for each door. When the sensor is activated it will the activate the solenoid for
a set time say 1 second to pop the door open. So please leave any suggestions you have and
thank you for your time

Are you trying to move the door handle to un-latch the door or are you trying to open the whole door?
Something like this?Door Solenoid.png
