Sure, that's a valid use. Much of the time, a jack like J1 would be used to connect an aux power supply to something that is battery powered. You'd usually want to disconnect the batteries while powered from the aux supply.

I'm unsure what TB1 is doing. If it is an alternate supply to J1 then yeah, it gets disconnected when you plug into J1 and that works.
