Hello, I need help making a motor control circuit using potentiometers, I am using the picaxe 14M2 and have problems with the circuit exploding. Can someone please fix this circuit so I can control motors using relays and potentiometers, thanks!

Where is the power for the picaxe connected?
The battery in the diagram has a 4k7 resistor in series with it. Why?
There appears to be a short circuit across the pots - the line which goes around the two middle relays and back again.
How is the 0V shown on the diagram connected with the picaxe supply.

I had to add a resistor in series to stop the battery from shorting, I know this is a big ask but would anyone be able to make the circuit work, this must be done by tomorrow for coursework and I am unsure on how to controll the motors with potentiometers. [I am required to use that chip]

I have copied your circuit below with the shorting link arrowed in red. That loop serves no useful purpose - remove it, then you won't need the resistor.

How about my power questions?xlnwGSl.png

yenka [the software] doesnt allow for micro controller power pins and so I cannot render the power lead in, however it will be added later when using real PCB. Thank you so much!
