Hello,

I have a PCB with a failed component. I know that the competent is a transistor, however I cannot tell what type of transistor it is as the casing disintegrated when the transistor failed.

Would anyone who has repaired this type of vacuum cleaner know what type of transistor it is?

One lead seems is labeled "G", that would imply gate, so maybe its a MOSFET ?

What are the other leads labels and what are they wired to ?

If I'm reading correctly, the silk screen shows TR1, T1, T2 and G.
And that suggests a Triac?

Can you try to measure what are the values of the components around it an draw a basic circuit of the connections. Also please what is the power supply rated. If is 200W, most of that will go through the triac, so you will need a triac that handle it.

 

The machine draws up to 2400W so the Triac will need to handle that at least..

Well .. it's kerbside clean up time around here https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Kerbside_collection&section=4#Australia when residents leave out larger items that will not fit in their rubbish bins and the council will come and collect the items.

I spotted a vacuum cleaner on the kerb, pick it up, bring it home, take it apart..
Ah ha.. it's a similar circuit to mine.. with the component attached to a heat sink and everything!
Remove the required component from the donor.
Transplant it to my recipient .. soldered it in, added some heat sink paste between the component and the heat sink,
screwed the machine back together.Plug it in ... Close my eyes and hold my breath as I switch the vacuum cleaner on.
I know.. I know, not very safety conscious there, I really should have tested the circuit first.
The sound.. ah... the sound of vacuum cleaner fills the house once again
It's music to my ears.. I liked the sound so much that I vacuumed the house.
