Exactly right about the two conductor shielded cable. But I am not so very certain about the line driver because I am thinking they are not high precision devices. And at least some line drivers are for digital applications, not linear at all.
They always been fine because they were designed for this application. The newer ones like the ina851 are better because of the over voltage protection they built into them. This series is low noise enough that some of them, like the ina217 has been used for decades in pro audio.

Digital drivers like what is used in RS485/RS422 were good to use but you have to condition the signal afterwards.

I have never tried using digital line drivers for analog signals. I know that there are are AUDIO line drivers, only used them with "Line Level" audio (zero up to about 2 volts.)

Instrumentation amps are analog amps to condition inputs into an analog to digital converter.
What I always though that was interesting for the pro audio guys, is that they are commonly using the cheapest one that most of the time wasn't really designed for the A/D converter they are using. But I can tell that they are not designing their circuit and using the generic schematics in the datasheet for their production.

Instrument amps are not usually line drivers, at least they did not used to be. I only used them for strain gage inputs, where they worked very well (Analog Devices 2B31Js. used a few hundred of one project.
