Im thinking of using the LM2621 to power a stereo from a 6V battery setup. (4 'D' Cell Carbon Zincs are what I have in mind)

The stereo is a Sirius SXMB2C and it runs on 12V as far as I can tell. From tests I have done it seems to draw between 0.7A and 1.3A during operation.

After reading the LM2621 datasheet it seems to say that the "Switch Peak Current Limit" is 2.85A.

Would using the LM2621 to power this device be a good idea? If not what am I not seeing?

If I’m reading the datasheet correctly, it wouldn’t be a good idea.

The peak current is rated for 2.85A.

But the load current (or operating current) is only rated for 1A. (See “Features” On page 1).

It did seem like a stretch that this thing could handle almost 3 amps given that its such a small IC.
