my advice would be to search on google for projects using the PICAXE. It's a simple microcontroller that can be programmed in basic. There should be some some projects out there which will give you a good idea for your own.

 

Another option is to scan through this Forum. There are thousands of threads here...most of them with a problem looking for a solution. Your project could be to solve one of them.
