LED turn signal bulbs and hyper flash fix

Here's the deal. I've got 2 incandescent turn signals and I've added one LED turn signal per side on my project car.
With the stock flasher unit (mechanical) it hyper-flashes. With the LED disconnected, naturally it flashes normally.
I've got a solid state flasher with sound, that goes at a normal rate but none of the lights actually light up. (The flasher is unit CF13 JL-02)

I've read up on it and all I've been able to determine is either fit an anti-hyperflash flasher unit, or install a load resistor. For me this wouldn't be a problem, but I want to keep the solution as simple as possible as this is for a product I'm developing.

What's the simplest way to solve this? Would I be better off swapping the incandescents for 1156 LED bulbs?

Thanks.

Easiest would be to switch to LED lights and use an LED flasher unit. You can get them from GROTE which is sold at most automotive parts retailers.

A mechanical flasher responds to current. Higher current makes it cycle quicker. LEDs are famous for using LESS current, therefore I think we have an unprotected LED and a resistor is the answer.

Please confirm or deny what I said. The answer is important to getting the flasher to work right.
