The majority of "hobby class" bug devices transmit on the FM broadcast band, because it is simple and easy and cheap, and the receivers are already available. So put one of those together, show it to her, and then do a bug device search to show her how to find it. Then the two of you can do a whole house bug sweep search. If you find one or more then she was right, if not, then either the batteries have run down or there are no bugs. And it gives youu two a chance to do an interesting project together.
One alternate thought is that if there is assorted planted electronics it could be a home security system. I have come across those in a few client's houses. Security systems from a long-gone owner, even.
I had replied to this thread previously but apparently my post was deemed "rude and aggressive" which was not the intention. I'll reword it the way it was meant to read.
All I was saying was that I do not think that if anyone wanted to bug a room by encasing a bug into something in the room, I doubt they would encase it in clear plastic where anyone could see it, or at least wonder what it was and investigate it further. This makes me believe it is not a bug.
This should not be taken as a put down or mocking of any member or anything like that. If you still think it is a bug that's fine
That is a very good point. If I wanted to bug a room I might hide a bug in athe not-visible part of an elaborite light fixture or in the cold air-return grill of the heating system. But those would be permanent bugs with embedded wiring to some monitor or recording point. The few times that I did record conversations in my house I hung the small microphone on the back of a curtain on the window behind the couch where those folks I wanted to record would be sitting. Not permanent, but adequate for the occasion.
