Hello all,
I am using BTA-41 triac to switch 1200W motor. The triac is triggered by moc-3041 opto coupler. The issue which I am facing is that, the triacs failed to switch after 45 mins due to increase in temperature. Though I have used the heat sinks, but still I am facing these issues. I have used BTA-40, but please tell me Is BTA-40A a reliable solution?? Or can I use BTA-41 for switching heavy inductive loads ?

Your triac is rated @40Amps, can you post a circuit of what you have, and what voltage are you working with?

BTA41 is rated at 41 amps rms. A 1200 watt motor on 240vac draws 5 amps. PDF says good for general AC switching and induction motor starting. Max dissipation at 5 amps is only 4 watts. Possible the BTA41 is not switching on at each zero crossing causing increased
heating or maybe you need larger heatsinks and a fan for circulation.
