That said, any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.

I have a corollary to A.C. Clarke's excellent observation:

"Sufficiently advanced magic is indistinguishable from technology."

This is a reference to the fact that all though history "magicians" and "wizards" have always been technologists when it comes to anything effective they managed to do. They learned how to rearrange the material world to get desirable effects and that's technology. Adding science to the mix made the advancement far more linear and independent of "secrets" passed down and unnecessary detritus they didn't know did not contribute to the result.
