I disagree. Trees are much friendlier to hug.
Then again, if your primary goal is a low maintenance pet which is still alive, a cactus is probably among the best.

I am not a lawyer so I don't really know what the laws in different countries have to say about that. I'm however somewhat sure that most people that have watched a plant grow, bloom or die will come to the conclusion that plants are living organisms. Lets just say that I've water plastic, glass and metal on regular bases, mostly boxes, cups and other dinnerware and none have shown any growth so far or reproduced.

This is not a problem involving the language barrier. He clearly asked if plants are alive. Then he clearly said he's known they were alive for many years. Sounds like trolling to me.

 

As many of us know, Ritesh (aka RRitesh) has been a self-employed entrepreneur for a few years and is now looking for employment in a country other than India. I truly wish him the best. But, he needs to consider the effect of threads such as this on his employment potential. That comment is described in more detail here. You need to believe that I do not wish ill will on him. None of us do. But, I also believe that some very decent people are easily misdirected by their short-term goals.

I am beginning to wonder if he is playing us with the old "me no speaka the English" routine or someone else (maybe several others) are using his account to post. If you saw this post it's pretty darn good. A few misspellings or misuse of words here or there (and that can be blamed on an over helpful spell checker) but still very understandable.

FWIW, based upon my interaction with him via PM and on his thread (in the Math forum), he not uncommonly 'moots' arguments (or perceived arguments) offered by articles found on the 'web', etc... --- Perhaps he wanted input on what seemed a ridiculous claim? --- It's reasonable to assume, for instance, that the distinction between 'sentient' and 'living' may be lost on an 'ESLer' --- Especially as, in addition to its principal definition, 'life', in common usage, can mean anything from 'reality' to 'fate' to 'the asperities one must endure', etc...

While I claim no knowledge of the circumstances attending his expulsion from ETO, I will say that I've not observed disruptive behaviour on his part here...

Everybody -- Please bear in mind that he has expressed difficulty with concentration -- that, in combination with 'taking on' a new language, is bound to manifest itself as impaired communication...

Let's make it this -- even if I'm wrong and his critics are correct - he seems harmless enough?
