I recently built an 1176 audio compressor, and now need to calibrate it. I am somewhat new to this, and do not know how to inject a signal.

 

Can't you just apply the test signal (inject it) into the input of your compressor? Audio signal generator through an appropriate resistor divider? Or the output of a low frequency spectrum analyzer if you have access to such a piece of test gear?

 

Thanks for responding! It seems like the proper way to do so, but my compressor input is XLR, and my connections from my signal generator are BNC. Using test equipment is a whole new world for me. My signal generator is an inexpensive "Koolertron DDS".
