Why Is Cream Cheese Flying Off the Shelves in the U.S.?

https://www.businessinsider.com/supply-chain-crisis-cream-cheese-shortage-nyc-bagel-shops-2021-12

Panicked New York bagel shop owners are hoarding cream cheese and crossing state lines for supply as dairy companies struggle against supply chain crisis
perhaps it was because of Hanukkah? Might be a shortage of Lox and pastrami

Meat prices are skyrocketing, so popular Bay Area deli Augie's is closing temporarily (Montreal)

Cream cheese? Never would have guessed. Since everyone is making money on the whole pandemic / shortage happenings I can go to the local super markets and hoard all the cream cheese I can get. Then I'll hook up with my old NY friends in NYC and make a cream cheese run. I do like the Honey Walnut (Philadelphia Brand). This also reminds me I need to call Larry's Smokehouse in Washington State and order smoked salmon for Christmas before I can't even get that.

My experience is the only way to stop thieves and break-ins is really good ammunition. :)

Let's not forget the senseless and maniacal attraction of Coor's beer (worse than carbonated panther piss IMHO) East of the Mississippi back around the time OPEC came into being (c.1973)
https://www.nytimes.com/1975/12/28/...ly-in-the-west-coors-beer-is-smuggled-to.html

Sold only in the West, Coors beer is smuggled to the East.

Bootleggers from New Jersey to Tennessee regularly sell cases of Coors for as much as $15—about three times the Colorado retail price. (And three times what a New Yorker may pay for that favorite of Met fans, Schaefer.) Obviously, Coors must be a magic potion, not simply a fermented blend of barley malt, rice, hops and “Pure Rocky Mountain Spring Water.” What accounts for the magic?

“I frankly can't explain it,” says Ernest Pyler, editor of Brewers Digest. “Coors by brewing standards is a good beer, but so are many others. I think it's mostly because of its unavailability.” Joe Nazzaro, a bartender from Connecticut who works at the Ute City Banque restaurant in Aspen, remarks: “It's funny. I go home to Connecticut; it's a big deal to bring my father a couple of cases of Coors. But out here I don't think twice about it.”

My first taste of Coors beer was between 72 and 75 in Arizona. While not available in Ohio then it found its way here a decade or so later. Today it is sold and distributed all over Ohio. As of May 1987 Coors beer was distributed in NY and NJ. A case here (24 cans) runs a little under $20. Ah, the story is dated 1975. :) I was slow on the uptake on that one.

YOU MAY NOT BE ABLE TO FIND PHILLY TO MAKE A CHEESECAKE.
SO GET ANY OTHER DESSERT ON US.

A delicious cheesecake is a holiday tradition that many families look forward to. At Philadelphia, we believe these moments of delight that pull you into holiday feelings really matter. So, if cheesecake is on fewer holiday tables this year, we want to make sure that you still get that holiday feeling, even if it’s through other desserts. If you can’t spread Philly, spread the feeling.

SAN FRANCISCO -- Some car owners in the San Francisco Bay Area have been going to great lengths to avoid vehicle break-ins, even if that means risking it all.

"I'm shocked," said former San Francisco Police Department Deputy Chief Garret Tom. "There's so much that can go wrong here."

We've heard of cars being left unlocked, windows rolled down, but now some people are leaving their trunks open too. It's raising eyebrows as reports of car break-ins are on the rise in San Francisco and Oakland.

A witness who saw it happen wrote on social media, "Imagine having to clean out your car and leaving it open in public, just so people won't break your windows. Oakland we looking sad man."

"It doesn't really surprise me," said Oakland's Interim Deputy Police Chief Drennon Lindsey.
I remember the "No Radio" sign joke.
It is the story of a car owner who parked and left a "No Radio" sign in the windshield.

When he came back, he found that all his windows had been smashed.

His "No Radio" sign had been turned over, and on the other side, someone had written, "Get One."

Cheesecake? Heck, I just got 4 Lbs of smoked salmon. Will trade ammunition for cream cheese. Whatever it takes. This is getting serious.

Several businesses across the country are also reporting a shortage of chocolate.

Kilwins in Fort Lauderdale has plenty of sweets to go around, but there another signature holiday treat that is lacking this year.

“Right now we are out of peppermint. Our last shipment is done. We will not get any more this holiday season,” said Bill Renaud, Owner of Kilwins in Fort Lauderdale.

Peppermint is really feeling the woes of the overwhelming supply chain crisis and the declining production.
