I am building a 4MHz oscillator and would like some input on the difference between epoxie resin inductors that look like resistors and coils wound on coil forms or toriods. we are talking about 330 uH range.
Any Thoughts..

Thoughts: all microhenrys being the same, what else matters? The resistance (Q), current limit (size of the winding wire), and self capacitance (how it's wound) resulting in a high limit of frequency usefulness. I haven't used any of these coils, so I'm just listing parameters to check.

Toroids dont radiate so much. 330uH seems a bit high for 4 MHz. A 4 MHz oscillator would normally use a radial inductor, or a crystal.

If you use a toroid, you can take off the wire, and rewind manually.

I'd like to say that the crystal idea is a very good idea. Crystals are cheap, very accurate, and very long lasting (reliable).
