There is a system that has been running for years, where you can recieve images from passing satelites. These satelites (NOAA and some russian ones) transmitt signals at about 137 Mhz. They are recieved, demodulated, and then plugged into the sound card of your computer, where software (David Taylor) decodes the signal into real time imaging of the earth. Realy cool to see!! I want to build this system, but i cant find any designs for the reciever (and i dont want to buy a KIT). This is not new technology. The ham guys have been building this stuff for over 20 years. Where is a good place to find some simple, DIY, circuit designs?

I'm going from deeply buried memory here, so there may be a flaw or three...

NOAA satellite fax images run at four lines per second, sixteen shades of gray. They are "FSK modulated." 1200 and 2400 Hz were the darkest and lightest. (Or was it the other way around?)

Does anyone know if the GOES (Geostationary Orbital Earth Satellite) birds are still up there? IIRC, they ran at eight lines per second.

What I fail to remember is which ones did IR as well as visual.
