Circuit elements, whether they be resistors, capacitors, inductors, and also active elements, are part of a bigger circuit.
We can apply current and voltage formula and behaviour to each element. How they interact within each circuit depends on the actual circuit and its application. We need to study the specific circuit as a whole and not just the individual element, in a specific context, and under DC and AC conditions.
